Father jailed for leaving baby in car

13 April 2012

A part-time fireman who went to a bar then got a taxi home, leaving his six-week-old daughter in the back of a locked car, was jailed today for 75 days.

Robin Spandler, 44, of Gorleston, Norfolk, admitted abandoning his daughter Lilly last month.

Today magistrates in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, said they had no option but to jail him.

Lawyers said they would appeal against the sentence and would apply for Spandler, who runs a wedding car hire business, to be freed on bail pending the appeal later today.
