Family to sue Leeds players

Patrick Sawer12 April 2012

The Leeds United players cleared of causing grievous bodily harm to Asian student Sarfraz Najeib are to be sued by his family, it was reported today.

The family's lawyer Imran Khan said they would be claiming damages for the mental and physical suffering suffered by Safraz, 21, who was beaten up, and his brother Shahzad.

Lee Bowyer, 24, was cleared of the charges against him at Hull Crown Court last week, although the judge said his account to police was "littered with lies". Jonathan Woodgate, 21, was found guilty of affray and ordered to do 100 hours of community service.

The club will be sued for allegedly failing to control its employees.

Both players already face legal bills of more than £1million.
