Emma Thompson has married her actor boyfriend Greg Wise in a Scottish ceremony. The couple wed at one of their homes, a converted barn in Argyll, then had a reception for friends and family at a nearby hotel.

The 44-year-old double Oscar winner wore a white dress, while Wise, 37, was in a kilt. Their three-year-old daughter Gaia was a flower girl.

Thompson said: "This for me is heaven. It has been a wonderful day."

As they posed for pictures in pouring rain, she added: "We'll need to get inside, Greg has got no knickers on."

The wedding had been kept secret from everyone but their families and guests, who included Sir Derek Jacobi.

Thompson's sister, actress Sophie Thompson, said: "There wasn't a dry eye in the house."

Newlyweds Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes were invited but could not attend.

Villagers were given champagne as the couple arrived at the 17th century Coylet Inn on the shores of Loch Eck.

The couple, together for six years, have been outspoken against marriage with Thompson once declaring she did not "see the point" of it. The wedding comes two months after her former husband, Kenneth Branagh, secretly married art director Lindsay Brunnock.
