Death leap banker was ‘normal’ hours before, says friend

Popular: Banker Anjool Malde, seen with friends at Opium club in London, also ran a party company

The last friend to see the banker who leapt to his death from a restaurant terrace told today he seemed happy and carefree.

David Langer spent Saturday night with stockbroker Anjool Malde, leaving his flat on Sunday morning a few hours before the banker dressed in his best Hugo Boss suit and jumped to his death holding a glass of champagne.

Mr Langer, a fellow Oxford graduate and internet entrepreneur, revealed how his friend, who worked at Deutsche Bank, appeared in good spirits and his usual self. They had discussed his 25th birthday party which would have been tonight hosted by his events company, Alphaparties, at Amuse Bouche in Soho.

Mr Langer said: "He seemed completely normal. He didn't say anything about problems at work or anything else that may have been getting him down. We went to a party together that night and then we went back to his. I saw him on Sunday morning when I left. It was a total shock when I found out what happened later."

He left Mr Malde's City flat near Liverpool Street station shortly before midday when Mr Malde walked to the nearby Coq d'Argent at No 1 Poultry and jumped 80ft to his death.

Potential: Anjool, in 1994, was "full of spirit"

His parents Naina, an art teacher, and father Bharat, a psychologist, have returned to their family home in Yarm near Stockton-on-Tees after spending the past few days in London. They said in a statement: "We are absolutely devastated. He was an inspiration to so many. He meant everything to us."

His former headteacher, John Morgan of Conyers School in Yarm, said: "We had a feeling that he was going to be a success in life. He was full of spirit, he had it all. We are devastated."
