Councillor charged with theft

A former adviser to Mayor Ken Livingstone has been charged with stealing about £240,000 of public money.

Tower Hamlets councillor Kumar Murshid, 49, faces 12 charges of theft and two counts of failing as a director to maintain records and file company accounts. The charges relate to Dame Colet House and the Youth Action Scheme. Murshid and four others facing similar charges will appear at Bow Street Magistrates' Court next Wednesday.
