12 April 2012

Britain today woke up to its coldest October morning for 17 years. Temperatures at Kew fell to -1.5C overnight.

The coldest spot was in Sennybridge, south Wales, where temperatures fell to -6.6C.

The previous lowest temperature for the area was -6.2C, recorded in 1997. Temperatures are "set to ease" over the course of the week, a Met Office spokesman said.

London is likely to remain at a more comfortable five or six degrees tonight with rain and winds forecast by the coming weekend.
