Church says knickers to M&S

She may have the voice of an angel but that did not stop Charlotte Church being painfully blunt.

Yesterday, she turned down the chance to be the new face of Marks & Spencer - describing the deal they offered her as 'cack'.

Pssst...The troubled chain wanted her to follow in the footsteps of David Beckham and Claire Sweeney, believing she was perfect to revive their fortunes.

But the singer, who picked up £5.5million when she turned 18, was worried the deal would ruin her new 'slim and cool' image. Charlotte told a friend: 'It would be all right if it was a decent shop but M&S is where your mum shops.'

Charlotte would have starred in posters across Britain and made appearances to promote the store. An M&S insider said: 'Bosses went for Charlotte because her down-to-earth personality fits the image they want.'
