China on road to making Mercedes

CAR giant DaimlerChrysler has signed a deal under which it could make 25,000 luxury Mercedes cars a year in China.

The deal, with Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company, includes an estimated investment of

e1bn (£690m) over several years and also includes truck-building.

Japan's Mitsubishi Motors, in which Daimler holds 37%, makes sport utility vehicles with Beijing Automotive.
