Charley is biggest natural disaster

The devastation caused by Hurricane Charley in Florida last weekend is expected to top any natural disaster in history.

Insurers say that the repair bill could top £12 billion, putting it close to the destruction of the World Trade Center.

It will also eclipse Hurricane Andrew in Miami in 1992. The category three hurricane - the second most powerful possible - is known to have killed at least 20 people in Florida and damaged thousands of homes along the eastern coast.
