BT to offer £27 broadband

12 April 2012

BT has said it would sell 'no frills' high-speed Internet access for as low as £27 pounds per month, offering an alternative to the traditional Internet service provider.

Britain's dominant fixed-line telecoms operator said it expected the stripped-down DSL (digital subscriber line) product to attract 500,000 users by mid-2003, or half the target set by new Chief Executive Ben Verwaayen.

Overall, broadband access was expected to give a net increase of 490 million pounds in revenue in 2004/05, BT said.Britain's market for Internet access is currently dominated by ISPs such as AOL and Freeserve.

The 'no frills' product, known as BT Broadband, would be widely available in autumn of this year following trials.
