Britney's brawling hubby

Britney Spears's Las Vegas groom Jason Alexander has a criminal record for brawling.

Alexander's fighting came to light as legal documents showed the couple's 55-hour marriage was doomed because they "did not know each other's likes and dislikes".

The 22-year-old - a 6ft, minor American football star - has been arrested three times over the past year in the same bar in Hammond, 40 miles from his and Spears's hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana.

After the first two arrests at the Extra Innings bar, charges of trespassing and battery against Alexander were dropped.

But after his third arrest in October, in which he had his mugshot taken, he pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace after getting into a fight. He was fined just over 100 dollars.

Court papers filed in Nevada reveal legal reasons for the marriage to be annulled. In a sworn statement, Spears, 22, is said to lack "understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage."

Alexander has spoken about the short-lived marriage for the first time, saying: "It was just crazy, man."

He said: "We were just looking at each other and said, 'Let's do something wild, crazy. Let's go get married just for the hell of it.' "

Alexander said that the couple had gone to Las Vegas for New Year to "cut loose a little bit and get away from everything."

He said that after the ceremony: "We got back to the room and that's when we needed to tell everybody. Then that's when all hell broke loose and we realised what we did probably wasn't the right thing."

As an old friend of the singer, he said: "It wasn't really that big a deal that I was marrying Britney Spears."

But he admitted that they soon realised their mistake and decided on the annulment.

Among the legal reasons given were that the couple did not know if they wanted children or even if they planned to live together. Alexander will not get any of the singer's £60 million fortune.

"Upon learning of each other's desires, they are so incompatible that there was a want of understanding of each other's actions in entering into this marriage,'' say legal papers.

The annulment was filed at 10.12am in Las Vegas yesterday and signed by family court judge Lisa Brown just over two hours later. According to a close friend, Spears woke up a "little stunned" after realising she had walked down the aisle.

The pop diva, dressed in torn jeans and a baseball cap with a frilly white garter, wed Alexander at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Las Vegas Strip in the early hours of Saturday. Spears's publicist said within hours the singer realised it was a "joke too far".

To end the marriage, Spears had to promise the couple had no debts or property and that she was not pregnant. Her lawyer, David Chesnoff, said the couple had "made a wise decision. I know they care about each other. They are friends."
