Britain rejects Mugabe win

Foreign Secretary Jack Straw today told MPs Britain did not recognise the result of the Zimbabwe elections.

He said the result was a "tragedy" for the country. But he stopped short of announcing new sanctions against Robert Mugabe's regime and said he would await the decision of a troika of Commonwealth nations - South Africa, Nigeria and Australia - on whether to suspend Zimbabwe.
