Brawls in street after Facebook party

12 April 2012

A teenager threw a can of beer at police during a fight which broke out involving up to 200 "drunken teenagers" who gatecrashed a party advertised on Facebook, a court heard today.

A large number of police were called after the event, held at a house in Chapel Lane, Farnborough, Hampshire, got out of control on July 18 last year.

Jeremy Wright, prosecuting, told Winchester crown court that friends Jordan Wright, 17, and Seva Nurueva, 15, asked permission to hold the party from their parents, and handed flyers to neighbours promising to turn down the music from 1am.

But Jordan promoted the event on Facebook, on which he had about 500 friends, leading to about 200 people turning up.

Mr Wright said fighting broke out in the street and police officers formed a cordon to quell the violence and to calm down the teenagers.

But he said Ashley Pemberton, 19, of Farnborough, was caught on video filmed by a police helicopter throwing a beer can at officers.

Further footage captured by a neighbour was shown in court which included a youth bearing his bottom.

Pemberton, who was arrested as he urinated in a garden at about 1am, denies a charge of affray and a second count of using a can of beer as an offensive weapon.

Mr Wright described how the party started out orderly but as crowds descended on the house, Jordan's mother, Sherry Wright, had difficulty coping with the influx.

He said: "The police were called and it was realised things really were getting out of hand. The police tried to shepherd people away but they were dealing, unfortunately, with a lot of drunken teenagers.

"The drunken teenagers became very excited and very aerated, they were really behaving very badly in their excitable and drunken state.

"They didn't really want to go and they were giving trouble all around, they were unfortunately giving trouble to the police who were trying to break things up.

"Because of the numbers involved, a lot of police were called and a helicopter was called."

The trial continues.
