Body discovered in lake

13 April 2012

A body was discovered in a lake, police said today.

It was recovered at Hollow Ponds, Leytonstone, east London, yesterday afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene by a member of the public at around 3.45pm.

The body, which has so far not been identified, was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital and pronounced dead.

A post-mortem was due to be carried out later today.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said she was unable to confirm the identity or the gender of the body and that police were keeping an open mind as to the cause of death, which was being treated as suspicious.

The lake area at Hollow Ponds remains closed while officers from Waltham Forest borough continued investigations.
