Rush hour jams were expected today as one of the busiest stretches of the M25 round London remained closed following a massive fire.
A warehouse fire sent plumes of thick black smoke billowing across the motorway at the Dartford Crossing reducing visibility to nil.
Police warned the Dartford tunnel and bridge and the M25 between junctions 30 to 2 would stay shut during today's rush hour.
A 27-mile diversion was in place via the Blackwall Tunnel yesterday.
Around 44 firefighters battled to contain the fire at the Eagle Global Logistics warehouse on the Dolphin Industrial Estate at Purfleet, Essex, which broke out at 8.51am on Sunday.
Nearly half the roof of the building collapsed and it was still well alight at 11am.
Firefighters would be damping down the fire for the next two days, police said.
A Highways Agency spokeswoman said: "Drivers should make alternative arrangements as the road will be closed overnight and over the rush hour period Monday."
