Bests reunite at Elton's ball

Bests: enjoying each other's company

Carole Caplin has taken a vow of silence about her life with the Blairs. But the lifestyle guru could not avoid the spotlight when she stepped out at a charity ball. Cherie Blair's former confidante has been at the centre of a media storm since she left Downing Street, with offers reportedly up to £1 million for her to tell her story.

She has dismissed the idea of a tell-all book as "the most serious breach of confidence imaginable".

Last night she caught the eye in a stunning black dress by one of Posh Spice's favourite designers. Miss Caplin was the talk of the Passions Of Barbados Ball in aid of the Sir Elton John Foundation at the Natural History Museum in a £1,000 black strappy dress by Maria Grachvogel, who persuaded Victoria Beckham to model for her at a fashion show three years ago.

Miss Caplin spent most of the evening with Miss Grachvogel who now dresses Angelina Jolie, Sadie Frost, Anna Friel, Yasmin Le Bon and Madonna.

Although now said to be banned from Downing Street following reported clashes with other advisers, Miss Caplin, 41, remains a close friend of Mrs Blair and the pair meet regularly at a gym.

She was reluctant to discuss the Blairs and the Prime Minister's heart scare, saying: "I'm sorry, I'm not talking tonight - this is a night of pleasure only."

Elton John's charity ball proved to be a night of reconciliation for George Best and his wife Alex after their recent estrangement over revelations about his drinking and claims of womanising.

The ex-Manchester United star, who had a liver transplant after a long battle with alcoholism, told the Standard: "We are really enjoying each other's company. We are having a wonderful night together."

At the charity auction, George, 57, bid £3,000 for a holiday in Barbados for him and his 31-year-old wife.

Chelsea's Romanian footballing star Adrian Mutu modelled at the ball which was attended by his team mates Mario Melchiot and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and former Spurs star Les Ferdinand.

Auctioneer for the night was Patrick Kielty and the cabaret was performed by Liberty X.
