Bell slips down pecking order after bird strike

One of England's top batsmen has already suffered from an Aussie attack but the assailant was a bird rather than a fast bowler.

Ian Bell was left with a cut nose after a magpie swooped and bit him while he was playing golf near Brisbane. Bell was wearing sunglasses, which may have saved him from more serious injury as the black and white birds have been known to peck at eyes.

The magpie then dived at a buggy carrying bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad before it was driven away with a golf club. Magpies are particularly aggressive at this time of year in Australia because it is their breeding season.
