Bank cashier and £172,000 missing

12 April 2012

Scotland Yard is searching for a London bank clerk who disappeared on the same day that £172,000 went missing from a safe.

Detectives today named Mark Griffiths, 24, as a suspect for the theft of the cash from the Lloyds TSB branch in Bermondsey.

Mr Griffiths, from Basildon, was last seen at the branch in Tower Bridge Road on 27 December.

He left a phone message with his parents on New Year's Day saying he was depressed and was going away for a while to "sort my head out".
