Ade Edmondson: ‘I’d rather play music than joke or cook’

Comedy star and Celebrity Masterchef winner Ade Edmondson has said he would die happy if he was finally acknowledged for his main love — music.

The Young Ones and Comic Strip performer has just released his third album, Mud Blood and Beer, which includes original music for the first time. He has forged a fan base covering tracks such as Madness’s Our House, The Jam’s Going Underground and No More Heroes by the Stranglers.

His folk-punk outfit, the Bad Shepherds, will soon begin a national tour that will conclude at the 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on December 14.

“It’s very hard to describe what we do without sounding a pretentious fool with a capital W,” he said. Edmondson, who is married to fellow comedy star Jennifer Saunders, added that music was always his passion: “If the world offered me the opportunity to just do the band, I would do it in a shot.

“A woman walked by once and she looked at me and she said, ‘Are you the musician?’ and my heart just went, ‘Wah’. It’s the nicest thing in the world to be called.”
