100 arrested in domestic violence raids

More than 100 people have been arrested in a drive to combat domestic violence, police said today.

At least 111 people were held in raids across London today and yesterday, resulting in more than 70 charges, Scotland Yard said.

Charges include rape, grievous bodily harm, threats to kill, unlawful imprisonment and criminal damage.

More than 300 officers were involved in the operation.

Chief Superintendent Rod Jarman, of the Met's diversity directorate, said: "Domestic violence is a serious crime that impacts on more Londoners than any other. It is more likely to involve repeat victimisation than any other crime.

"We will take action if you physically and emotionally abuse your partner. Violence of this kind is not acceptable."

A range of events also took place yesterday across London to raise awareness about domestic violence.
