Though economies of scale means that property developers remain wary of taking on one-off pockets of land, a growing interest in infill homes has produced a spate of offbeat structures squeezed into small plots across the capital.

These projects are often spearheaded by ambitious residents who have squared off a section of their own garden, or decided they can do without a double garage after all.
