Mega mansion on London’s most expensive street listed for sale for first time in 63 years

The St John’s Wood home is for sale for £38 million and in need of an update — although the level of works needed isn’t clear as there aren’t any interiors pictures on the sales listing.

A 10-bedroom mansion in London’s most expensive street has been listed on the open market for the first time in 63 years, with an astonishing £38 million price tag.

The curved, red-brick home is set on half an acre in St John’s Wood’s exclusive Avenue Road, where celebrity residents have included singers Rihanna, who rented a £16,000-a-week mansion that was later for sale for £32 million, and Robbie Williams, who rented a home that was later listed for £22.5 million.

Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua is also among former tenants of trophy homes in the prestigious north-west London street.

In need of an update, the £38m home for sale has planning permission for a lower-ground floor with a swimming pool, spa, games room and cinema room, while a rear extension at ground level would add a new kitchen with a flat green roof overlooked by the master bedroom suite.

A proposed first-floor terrace would cater for the third and fourth bedrooms, and the extensions would take the home’s square footage up to just over 18,000 in total - more than 25 times the size of the average London home.

“Opportunities to take on a project of this scale are becoming increasingly rare in London,” said Stephen Lindsay of Savills who are marketing the home.

“We expect to see strong interest from local and international buyers wanting to take the house into its next phase.”
