An online listing for a New York apartment has gone viral for its bizarrely risqué description.

The one-bedroom apartment is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and also features a living room, kitchen, and bathroom.

The apartment’s listing on real estate website StreetEasy shocked viewers because of its suggestive language.

The listing, which has now been edited, read: “HIDE & SEEK (adult style).

“A sexy king-size one bedroom where you'll find four, very large closets in which you can hide from your very, naughty playmate.

“And should you be lucky enough to be found, the two of you can retreat to the king-size bedroom where you both can romp & play, all night.”

The description then suggested other things a renter could do in the space, such as invite “many more” guests to “partake in communal games, held in your stadium-sized living room.”

“However, be mindful not to let your guests stay past dawn though, else they'll be sure to be beamed by glaring sunlight; not good for the 'walk of shame,’” the description concluded.

A screenshot of the description was shared on Reddit, where people commented their surprise and amusement at the unusual advertising technique.

“Some niche marketing right there,” one person commented.

Another said: “I guess the adjectives of ‘charming,’ ‘bathed in sunlight’ and ‘cosy’ are done.”

Another person suggested the listing was a mistake, writing: “Maybe one of the agents sent it to another as a joke, and they pasted it before actually reading it.

“Otherwise, I think I’d be too nervous of what a black light would find to rent that place,” they added.

Other people condemned the listing as “trashy” and “in poor taste”.

“No wonder this had been up for 25 days,” one person said.

The apartment’s StreetEasy description, from realtor Jean Kersaint, has been changed since it attracted widespread attention.

It now reads: “One bedroom of unaccustomed size & closet count.

“Stadium-sized living room.

“4 spacious closets.

“A kitchen you can actually cook and eat in.

“Southern and Eastern windows, all about.

“Cheap.

“That's all, folks.”

Despite the unusual initial listing, the $2,500 a month apartment has attracted plenty of would-be renters, with 57 users saving it on StreetEasy.
