Why 2019 is going to be the year of wallpaper

More specifically, bold print wallpaper which, according to a 2019 trend report by Pinterest has experienced a remarkable resurgence – and a 401 per cent growth in searches.

While the papery stuff might recall 1970s patterns and furry flocked affairs, the humble roll of wallpaper has come a long way.

From bold palms, to geometric prints and floral patterns, the options for injecting some personality into your living space are broad.

What’s more, with a growing number of removable patterns available, wallpaper is a truly democratic way to decorate your home, riding roughshod over aesthetic restrictions imposed by zealous landlords.

Larkin Brown, user researcher at Pinterest, says: “Over the past year, we're seeing inspiration for bold wallpaper making a statement on Pinterest with searches up by more than 400 per cent globally.

"Most likely, people are embracing this trend as a way to refresh their spaces with a touch of confidence and a way to show-off their personalities."

How to introduce wallpaper into your home

“With billions of home decor ideas on Pinterest, the platform can be an ideal place for people to figure out their own personal taste and discover ideas for how to bring to life the inspiration they find," says Brown.

"Bold wallpaper makes a big statement and breathes life into rooms big and small whether it's a colourful tropical print or a modern geometric design. The trick is to find a pattern that inspires you and then just go for it.”
