Parent Trap actor Dennis Quaid has revealed he is saving himself as he announces plans to adopt a cat called Dennis Quaid.

Speaking to news station WSLS, Quaid the actor revealed that he “couldn’t resist” adopting Quaid the cat even if it was “really off the wall.”

Quaid the actor previously found out about Quaid the cat and organised a Zoom call with the shelter, which features a listing of the handsome black feline on its website. Quaid the cat was previously featured in a news feature by WSLS about a campaign called Clear the Shelters, which encouraged people to rescue pets.

In the feature, it was revealed Quaid the cat has been "[waiting] for a family for over a year" and has a "big heart." On the shelter Lynchburg Humane's official website, his description reads: “I may not live up to my dramatic and artistic actor namesake, I'd rather watch his movies with you curled up on the couch!”

Quaid the actor discussed the adoption story on WSLS, alongside the co-host of his podcast The Pet Show Jimmy Jellinek. He said that they reached out to the shelter to learn more about Quaid the cat and Jellinek said it "took us a while for them to actually believe us."

Eventually, Quaid the actor met Quaid the cat on Zoom - the cat is set to be an 'office pet.' In a follow-up interview with WSLS, Quaid the actor said he “had to” adopt the feline. He continued, "I'm out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world."

According to WSLS, Quaid the actor is officially set to fly out from Los Angeles to Lynchburg to pick up Quaid the cat from the shelter this weekend. The actor joked, “Maybe they should start naming animals in shelters after different celebrities and see who bites.”

A number of celebrities have adopted or started to foster pets over lockdown, with notable names including Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, Arnold Schwarzenegger and more sharing their new additions to the family on Instagram.
