Bayern Munich celebrated wildly after clinching their first Champions League victory for seven years - and Alphonso Davies was the unknowing victim after being drenched by champagne during a live TV interview.

The 19-year-old became the first Canada international to lift the trophy after Bayern beat PSG 1-0 in a tense final in Lisbon thanks to Kingsley Coman's header.

The German giants completed a magnificent Treble for only the second time, having already clinched the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles earlier in the season.

As is their tradition when celebrating success, Bayern usually drench a certain player in some form of alcohol - Franck Ribery was an unhappy recipient after his team-mates covered him in beer some years ago.

But they took a new approach in an empty Estadio da Luz, ambushing Davies with champagne inside the trophy and drenching the youngster while he was interviewed by BT Sport's Des Kelly.

The interviewer gave him some prior warning, shouting "look out!" but it was too late as Davies - wearing a baseball cap - was soaked from head to toe by his colleagues.

He wiped his eyes and returned to the interview pleading: "Sorry, sorry!", to which the laughing interviewer said: "It's really not your fault."

Davies has made an incredible journey after being born in a refugee camp in Ghana and moved to Canada aged five after fleeing the Liberian Civil War. He made his name at Vancouver Whitecaps before joining Bayern in 2018.

The full-back said he hopes to inspire other youngsters to show that they can follow his path to stardom.

"My story is one I want to inspire people of," Davies said.

"It shows that you can do anything you set your mind to. I am happy to be here with the Champions League medal around my neck and the trophy on the side.

"We know legends won this title before so as a young kid coming in you want to keep that going. Every young player at this club is hungry to win titles because they see their idols doing it."
