A former windmill with an impressive balcony, observation room and uninterrupted views over the Lincolnshire countryside has been put up for sale.

The Black Mill in Brant Broughton, near Newark-on-Trent, is on the market for £900,000 and has an unusual cottage extension that wraps around the mill.

Painted black, the six-storey Grade-II listed windmill has six bedrooms and two extension wings leading from each side.

The current owners bought the mill 20 years ago and some neighbouring land 15 years earlier. They converted the structure into a home in 2007, a process that took four years.

A large and impressive living room sits in the centre of the converted mill, with rounded walls, wooden beams and double doors leading to the landscaped gardens.

A second doorway leads to a conservatory and then onto an annexe, with its own hallway, bathroom, living room and another bedroom upstairs.

Other downstairs rooms include an open-plan kitchen, a second sitting room, entrance hall, utility room and small bathroom.

There are three more bedrooms on the first floor of the main wing, with en-suite bathrooms; while the upstairs of the converted mill contains a fourth bedroom and bathroom.

The converted property also comes with a huge commercial unit covering 16,000sq ft, from which the owner set up a successful furniture business – Windmill Pine Co.

A further set of stairs leads from the feature bedroom to the second, third, fourth and fifth floors above.

The second floor has its own balcony, while, on the top floor, is an observation room offering panoramic views.

Set in six acres of beautiful Lincolnshire countryside, the property also features a triple garage.

The mill dates back to 1840 and while its original sails were blown off years ago, the building still has striking appeal and plenty of charm.

“This magnificent six-bedroom character property really is like no other. It’s a one-off,” says property agent Melanie Winstanley.

“This is such a rare opportunity to acquire such a unique windmill with its own commercial unit."
