A spectacular Clerkenwell townhouse built in the Eighties by celebrated architect Piers Gough for journalist and broadcaster Janet Street-Porter has been given Grade II-listed status.

The four-storey building has been hailed as an “extrovert and ostentatious example of post-modern domestic architecture” and an “uncommon late 20th-century revival of the London townhouse tradition”.

Gough, who made his name with his work in the redevelopment of London Docklands, said he modelled the space on Street-Porter herself, and that it carries a “visual punch” to resemble her own.

Loose Women panellist Street-Porter has fond memories of the striking three-bedroom home she moved out of in 2001. It was last sold for £3.5 million in 2014.

Spread over four floors, the standout features are the deep blue-glazed roof pantiles, diamond-paned windows and dramatic geometrical terraces and balconies.
