Sitting at the end of the Victoria line in Zone 2, Brixton has moved from fringe to fashionable, with a new generation of buyers and renters joining a rooted, diverse and confident mix of locals.

A town centre makeover is bringing hundreds of new flats, bars, bistros and cafés, while a creative hub has formed around the former Bon Marche department store, now headquarters for leading architects Squire and Partners, who have turned ancillary buildings into exhibition space and an all-day café and studios for small companies.

Meanwhile, developer Muse is refurbishing Lambeth council’s listed town hall and freeing up land and heritage buildings for apartments, new civic offices and better public space.

Three residential sites have been unveiled, including Ivor House, an Art Deco landmark where two-bedroom flats cost from £670,000.

About 40 per cent of the 194 new homes are being offered at reduced rents or for shared ownership. Call 020 3603 5546 for more details.

Close by, a new 20-storey tower with 96 flats has been launched. Called BRX, it is part of a council estate regeneration by Network Homes.

The good-looking architecture has crisp lines and smart interiors, sheltered balconies and residents gardens. One-bedroom apartments start at £470,000. Help to Buy is on offer. Call Dexters on 020 7483 6362.
