Wicked musical theatre tickets in London

This mischievous take on The Wizard of Oz will have you defying gravity in your quest for a ticket

It’s not easy being green, but that doesn’t stop Wicked from being a solid West End favourite.

We’re definitely not in Kansas anymore for this heartwarming prequel of The Wizard of Oz, showing us why the Wicked Witch of the West turned out to be such a meanie. The show starts when Elphaba - not yet Wicked - meets Glinda (later titled the Good Witch) at school, where they start out as friends.

This major fan favourite is currently in its eleventh year in the West End, where it’s performed at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, just over the road from new neighbour Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre. It has some seriously heavyweight casting history: musical legend Idina Menzel originated the role of Elphaba on Broadway and in the West End, and Kristin Chenoweth first played Glinda.

The show’s big banger is Defying Gravity, when Elphaba quite literally does just that by soaring into the air. A must-see for anyone hoping to sample a modern musical classic.

Did you know? The Wicked Witch of the West didn’t have a name so writer Gregory Maguire, who wrote the book that inspired the show, named her Elphaba after the author L. Frank Baum’s initials (LFB).
