What's new in the world of restaurants

10 April 2012

Throughout September there is to be a special game menu at the CITY CAFé (their own eccentric lettering). This restaurant is within the City Inn Westminster, and you can expect dishes such as grouse and venison consommé with wild mushrooms and cranberries, and roast red-legged partridge wrapped in vine leaves and served with sautéed winter cabbage, pancetta and red onions.

  • CITY CAFé, City Inn Westminster, 30 John Islip Street, SW1 (020-7932 4600).

Gastro tourists should note that the people at Gourmet On Tour (www.goumetontour.com) have arranged a series of one-day courses at Alain Ducasse's professional culinary school on the outskirts of Paris. You get two nights in a hotel with a full day of hands-on tuition. Choose between Thur 9 Sep chocolate, Thur 16 Sep refined collection or Thur 21 Oct desserts. 790 Euros per person sharing a twin room. Or maybe you would rather hunt for mushrooms in Brittany? Guided fungi forays based at the Manoir de Prévasy-three nights for £249 per person.

Chez Kristof is the new incumbent at the site that was formerly Maquis in Hammersmith. The menu is very French and of the 'terroir', with classic, homely dishes - Breton onion and cider soup, fromage de tête, sauce gribiche, cassoulet, pigeon with puy lentils.

  • Chez Kristof, 111 Hammersmith Grove, W6 (020-8741 1177).
