What's new in the world of restaurants

10 April 2012

Tue 27 Apr is the final day in the Original Sushi Competition 2004, which is being held in Matsuri High Holborn at 6pm. Chefs Jean-Christophe Novelli, Henry Harris and Aldo Zilli are joining the judging panel. The competition is to devise a new sushi, and last year the winner was 'miso mozzarella sushi'. More than 500 entries have been whittled down to the finalists, which include roast beef and yorksushi pudding, creamed kipper and parsley with crispy bacon, sushi Nero and futomaki terrine. There may be some tickets left for the finals, £30, child £20, apply by fax (020-7436 1930). Or e-mail info@ sushicompetition.com. Matsuri High Holborn, 71 High Holborn, WC1.

Since February, La Cave has been bringing a bit of Gallic je ne sais quoi to Borough High Street with a resolutely French menu - salade Lyonnaise, onion soup, guineafowl, chocolate mousse. The 30-seater restaurant offers a prix-fixe deal - two courses for £15.95 and three for £19.95. La Cave, Montague Close, 6-10 Borough High Street, SE1 (020-7378 0788).

Why not have a party with a difference and hold a private screening of a movie of your choice for 10 or more friends at the Charlotte Street Hotel? It costs £40 per person for the screening and room, with either a champagne-and-canapé reception or a three-course dinner in Oscar, the hotel's restaurant. Charlotte Street Hotel, Charlotte Street, W1 (020-7287 4434).
