It's always a pleasure to find a Young's pub, and this is the enormous one standing foursquare overlooking the common. It seemingly has acres of space inside, with all the rooms divided by old wooden partitions to create a public bar with TV monitor, a non-smoking dining section, a further dining section, enormous lounge bar and a delightful secret garden terrace at the back of the pub. It prides itself on its ales, of course, and these don't have to travel very far from their home at the Ram Brewery in Wandsworth Town. But this is also a popular destination for good-quality pub food. Steak meals and the Sunday roast are £6.50 or less and the extensive menu of grilled dishes is a relative bargain, with most dishes running in at under £5.
