Ailis Brennan2 December 2019

If all the talk of turkey has got you impatient for December 25, the Americans have come up with a solution.

Thanksgiving, one of the US's biggest national holidays, rolls around a month before, falling this year on November 28.

Whether you're a homesick American, or just feeling thankful for the opportunity to stuff yourself with pies both pecan and pumpkin, plenty of restaurants in London are putting on impressive spreads to mark the occasion.

We've picked out five of our favourite offerings from traditional to whiskey-fuelled as well as a longer list of places you should check out for more Thanksgiving fun.

Pitt Cue Co.

Paul Winch-Furness

Pitt Cue Co. is back – the much-loved barbecue restaurant is making a return after its City location closed earlier this year. It’s not got a permanent home yet, but its first move will be to throw a pop-up Thanksgiving feast for its fans. As ever, barbecue, bourbon and beer will be the focus of the meaty feast – dishes include a pulled pork bun, slow-cooked featherblade, bone marrow mash and more, while cocktails include a rye Manhattan and a maple Old Fashioned.

£75 per person, The Basement at Maison Bab, 4 Mercer Walk, WC2H 9FA, eventbrite.co.uk

Red Rooster

This Shoreditch restaurant is celebrating Thanksgiving with a heavy dose of Harlem soul. At the east London offshoot of Marcus Samuelsson’s famed New York spot, a three-course menu features holiday classics alongside some of the restaurant’s signature dishes. Main plates include roasted turkey breast with confit leg, cranberry and Brussels sprouts, while Harlem-style Sammy’s Chicken ‘n’ Waffle leads the starters, along with a Brussels sprout salad with ricotta, pear, pecan and truffle. Pumpkin pie is a fine choice for dessert, and can be enjoyed with a complimentary pumpkin spice espresso martini.

£55 per person, 45 Curtain Road, EC2A 3PT, redroosterldn.com

Tramshed

Mark Hix’s Shoreditch restaurant is going all out for Thanksgiving, thanks to a little help from an American whiskey favourite. Bulleit Frontier Whiskey will be whipping up a party at Tramshed, pairing each dish on the menu with a whiskey cocktail. Plates will include whipped pumpkin with goats curd, roasted turkey with all the trimmings and a whiskey pecan tart, alongside drinks such as a milk punch, a sweet potato whiskey sour and a Bulleit and Guinness Old Fashioned.

Corrigan’s Mayfair

While Irish food and drink is the focus of his latest restaurant Daffodil Mulligan, chef Richard Corrigan is hopping across the pond at one of his long-standing West End spots. Corrigan’s Mayfair will be serving a four-course Thanksgiving menu, accompanied by live music throughout the night. Game sausage rolls with oysters kick things off, before guests indulge in a roasted lobster and pumpkin bisque with Waldorf salad. Roasted turkey with all the trimmings is the main event, before diners indulge in a slice of pecan pie.

£95 per person, 28 Upper Grosvenor Street, W1K 7EH, corrigansmayfair.co.uk

Lagom

Chef Elliot Cunningham’s barbecue know-how is getting noticed at his pop-up food concept Lagom. Currently in residency at the Hackney Church Brew Co., its over-fire cooked, smokey flavours are getting a Thanksgiving focus this week. At the restaurant, Cunningham will be smoking whole turkeys, pre-prepared to order. They'll be available either to take away, or to be enjoyed as part of an in-house feast alongside sausage and cranberry meatloaf, whiskey roasted carrots, green bean casserole, smoked butter mash and pumpkin and smoked pecan pie.

£29 per person, 17 Bohemia Place, E8 1DU, @eatlagom
