Jason Atherton has announced that his Mayfair restaurant Little Social is to close this week, before reopening next month as new restaurant No.5 Social.

The French bistro, located just round the corner from Atherton’s flagship Michelin-starred restaurant Pollen Street Social, will close on Good Friday (April 19) for refurbishment, and reopen on May 8.

No.5 Social will move focus to British seasonal produce, with Kostas Papathanasiou, former senior sous chef at Pollen Street Social, taking on the role of executive chef. The new restaurant will be one of seven locations currently run by Atherton and the Social Company in the capital.

“Kostas has been an important part of the Social Company for the past three years and Irha [Atherton] and I felt it was time he was given his own project to run,” said Atherton.

The seasonally changing menu is set to feature the likes of English heritage tomato salad with goat’s curd, almonds and fennel, a poached Hebridean halibut dish with celeriac truffle emulsion, pickled mushrooms and a black truffle beurre blanc. A dish of roasted Herdwick lamb chop and cannon fillet will be served with crushed Jersey Royal potatoes, spring peas, cucumber and mint.

Chef and restaurateur Jason Atherton will open a new restaurant focusing on seasonal British produce

The physical menu will be illustrated each season with a different celebrated British ingredient.

The 60-cover restaurant is due to undergo a complete refurbishment, with the dark wood interiors and vintage posters of Little Social due to be replaced with much lighter interiors. Colours will range from pale pinks to deep blues, and fittings include rattan lights and duck egg blue fabric.

The news comes after Jason Atherton announced last year that he was looking to turn a space connected to Pollen Street Social into a 16-seater restaurant with the working title H.O.M.E.

No.5 Social will open on May 8 at 5 Pollen Street, Mayfair, W1S 1NE. Reservations can be made by emailing reservations@no5social.com
