London brunch breakdown: Asia de Cuba, Theatreland

Bored of bog-standard brunches? This luxurious offering offers something different – and they take bottomless drinking very seriously, finds David Ellis

What's on the menu?

If you’re a little bored with the capital's bog-standard brunch offerings, Asia De Cuba should sate your curiosity: things kick off with picadillo pastalitos, shrimp churros, odd but compelling chicken chicharrones, a moreish black bean hummus with malanga chips and plantain chips (just sweet enough), ceviche, small serves of Cuban sandwiches, and crispy spring rolls. The à la carte is difficult to resist: the breakfast tortilla has its spiciness pleasantly tempered with fresh tomato, while the Mojo Duck Confit (with rice, Thai basil, Thai chili and poached egg) is rich and moist and perfect in large scoops.

To drink? They take the ‘bottomless’ offer very seriously here, and are exceptionally generous with top-ups. If you’re splashing out for the champagne option, be assured you’re not getting cheap nasty fizz: instead, they'll be filling your flute with Perrier-Jouet all the way (and yes, you do pronounce the T). The Bellinis, Mimosas and Mojitos are all well made, and peppy enough for drinking early in the day. But take them up on their Bloody Mary bar: you can either mix your own, guided by the able barmen, or they’ll shake together one according to your preferences. The options are almost limitless. We liked the house-infused jalapeno vodka for a peppery, tangy base.

Get creative: head to the Bloody Mary bar to shake up your own signature mix

Where is it? Wander in through the revolving door of the St Martin’s Lane Hotel and the bustling Asia De Cuba sits to the left. You’re moments from Leicester Square and Covent Garden.
