1. It is my son Ben’s vote enthusiastically ratified by me — dinner at The Marksman in Hackney, incidentally Michelin Pub of the Year 2017. Curried Lamb Bun & Salt Lime Yoghurt — ace.

2. At the launch of Restaurants & Recipes by Will Beckett and Huw Gott at their Hawksmoor in Seven Dials, a dynamite lunch includes brill the size of turbot with crisp chicken skin.

3. Boxer, Labron-Johnson, Lee, Lowe, Spedding — aficionados will clock five exceptional chefs. Cooking together at Quo Vadis, dinner concludes with hazelnut cake with quinces, quetsch, sloes, custards and cream.

4. Yotam Ottolenghi, Tracey MacLeod, Marina O’Loughlin and I judge the writing section of YBF Awards. We meet at Nopi to discuss methods and exclaim over rabbit pastilla, fennel and pickled blackberries.

5. Wild mushroom tartlet at Sotheby’s private view of Howard Hodgkin: Portrait of the Artist — an astonishing, illuminating collection of art. And life.
