The backstory: The Shard's signature British restaurant. On level 31, the views over London landmarks including St Paul's and The Gherkin are hard to beat. The three-storey high atrium bar makes for quite the entrance.

The contemporary interior has been inspired by the capital with nods to gin and tea, both of which have strong roots in this part of London. Look out for the Liberty fabrics too.

Who goes there? Gwyneth Paltrow, Eddie Redmayne, Cindy Crawford (pictured below), Jessica Ennis and Vivienne Westwood are among the famous faces who have enjoyed dinner with a view at this glittering restaurant.

What's on the menu? Dishes feature British produce and combine traditional cooking with innovative techniques.

The Spring leek soup, roasted Monkfish and steamed chocolate sponge pudding are on our list of favourites. However, with food served from sunrise to sunset there is a dish for every occasion.

Cheque out: Expect to pay upwards of £70 per person for a three course dinner.

Can I book? Yes, tables are available on opentable.co.uk but be sure to plan plenty of time in advance as tables are in great demand.
