Evening Standard London Restaurant Awards: Polling opens for the capital’s diners to vote for its best restaurant

Every reader who casts a vote will have a chance of winning dinner for two at the triumphant restaurant
On the list: Lyle's in Shoreditch

Evening Standard readers are today invited to vote for their favourite London restaurant from a “wonderfully eclectic” shortlist showcasing the extraordinary variety of the capital’s culinary scene.

The venue with the most votes will be revealed as the Champagne Laurent-Perrier Restaurant of the Year at the Evening Standard London Restaurant Awards next month.

Every reader who casts a vote will have a chance of winning dinner for two at the triumphant restaurant.

On the shortlist are: A Wong, a Chinese restaurant in Pimlico; Lyle’s, Shoreditch’s modern British newcomer; French classic cuisine stalwart Otto’s in Clerkenwell; modern European Notting Hill landmark The Ledbury; Farringdon’s British dining room The Quality Chop House; and The Woodford, a new French opening in South Woodford. The shortlist was drawn up by a judging panel of experts, made up of awards director and restaurant writer Joe Warwick, Evening Standard restaurant critics Fay Maschler and Grace Dent, London chef Rowley Leigh and Instagram foodie star Clerkenwell Boy. Mr Warwick said: “The shortlist for the Champagne Laurent-Perrier Restaurant of the Year is wonderfully eclectic, just like London’s restaurant scene. All of the restaurants on the list have had a strong year, whether they’ve just opened or have been going for over a decade.

“From the City to Notting Hill and from Pimlico to South Woodford, it’s a list that takes in a lot of London. Service, style, ambition and — of course — superb cooking are what these restaurants all share, whether it’s envelope-pushing Chinese, stripped-back British, modern European or old-fashioned French.”

It is the second year of the awards, with the number of categories increased from one to six, and the winners will be revealed on the opening night of the Taste of London restaurant festival in Regent’s Park on June 15. Last year, tapas bar Barrafina Adelaide Street was voted Best New London Restaurant.

London Restaurant of the Year Award is open until 23:59 on Sunday, June 12 at: standard.co.uk/esrestaurantawards
