BRGR.Co's American afternoon tea

They may be two of the hottest trends in London dining but burger bars and afternoon tea do not make obvious culinary bedfellows.

That may be about to change after one new Soho burger restaurant bravely decided to launch its own Americanised take on the English treat.

Put aside images of cucumber sandwiches, scones and Earl Grey and instead think lobster slider (small sandwich), mini-doughnuts and iced tea.

The restaurant, BRGR.Co on Wardour Street, says it has seen an enthusiastic take-up. Assistant manager Maria Vuckovic said: “It has gone down really well, and the feedback has been really great. It’s only been going a few weeks but some customers have already been back three or four times.”

The £17 tea is available between 3pm and 6pm seven days a week with Sunday being the most popular day. It comes with a glass of prosecco, and starts with three sliders — a classic cheeseburger, a chicken Caesar bun and another filled with lobster and bacon — as well as a small pot of chips.

The tea is iced but there is also the option of traditional British tea.

Ms Vuckovic said: “We do have some people come in who have not read the menu and expect a normal afternoon tea. But they still think it is really good fun, despite the lack of clotted cream and scones.”
