Buns made of bread are so last month, apparently...

We’ve had avocado ice cream, avocado cupcakes and avocado pasta sauce, but the endless march of the avo is not over. The avocado burger has just landed in Covent Garden.

No, that’s not a burger with avocado included in the bun — this time the avocado is the bun.

The carb-free creation, which is already taking Instagram by storm, has just been added to the menu at Joe’s Southern Table and Bar near Covent Garden Market.

The restaurant, which serves food from America’s Deep South and is well-known for its fried chicken, is serving the new avocado burger in three varieties.

There is a traditional cheeseburger with bacon, a southern fried chicken with hot mayo sauce and a vegetarian soy burger — each priced at £8.95.

The avocado ‘bun’ has the added advantage of being gluten-free as well low calorie and super-healthy.

The concept was originally inspired by a post from Dutch food stylist Colette Dike who uploaded a picture of a chickpea burger sandwiched in a halved avocado.
