Five things Fay Maschler ate this week

What Fay ate this week

1. Shared roasted guinea fowl and chicory at Tom Pemberton’s Hereford Road after hearing Rachel Johnson’s toe-curling hard sell of her book Winter Games at The Tabernacle’s 5x15.

2. Beautifully spiced haleem made with Herdwick mutton scrag end at Karam Sethi’s newly starred Trishna, where he and Ravinder Bhogal explore the “slow cooking of forgotten foods”.

3. Rediscovered the joy of baking a Bramley apple filled with sultanas, brown sugar and finely chopped stem ginger in syrup. Then adding thick cream.

4. Gorgonzola with truffle honey at the Portobello House Hotel on Ladbroke Grove where we found a warm welcome after being hounded from Westbourne Grove restaurants by couples with giant pushchairs.

5. From Jacob Kenedy’s Gelupo Gelateria, the frozen “coppa” of Raspberry Lemon Meringue Pie. Ice cream and dessert in one, or actually several, allegedly lowfat, smooth spoonfuls.
