Bar Gazer: Sipsmith Gin Palace

The buzz: London’s favourite micro-distiller of gin has set up at the Langham Hotel’s Palm Court to show off its mono-spirit menu and accompanying tasting dishes.

The deal: the Art Deco design of the bar is sexy and truly opulent, with cascading chandeliers, rose-lit lamps and smooth live jazz. The cocktails are very good and the glassware spectacular, but all on the expensive side at £14.

Good for: the discerning older crowd — the grand hotel feel might put off trendier youngsters.

Order: if you’re in a large group you must order the Gineveristic — a giant ornate silver sharing bowl of gin, lemon, lime and champagne. Otherwise try the signature short tipple, the Ginger & Lilly.

By the way: book a table.

Find it: the Langham Hotel, 1c Portland Place, W1.
