Cool stuff: Winter Wonderland returns later this year

It may only be August, but Winter Wonderland today announced plans for this year’s extravaganza — with ice sculpting workshops and stand-up comedy among the new attractions.

The festival, popular with celebrities including Nicole Scherzinger, Harry Styles and Tamara Ecclestone, returns to Hyde Park on November 22. New features of the festive outdoor market and funfair this year will include a comedy line-up every night from 9pm in the Circus Megadome.

London-based comedians Luisa Omielan and Terry Alderton plus Canada’s Glenn Wool have already confirmed their performances, which are only open to the over-16s.

An Enchanted Forest will be created from more than 500 tonnes of ice and snow and visitors will be able to wander around the tree-lined space meeting “woodland animals and mythical creatures”.

For the first time, there will also be ice-sculpting workshops, with Londoners able to carve their own artwork under the guidance of experts.

Meanwhile, Zippos Circus will be hosting a special Christmas edition of the Teletubbies Live Show for children.

Zippos will also be performing its usual circus show, with the giant observation wheel and the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink all making a welcome return.

Other attractions include Peter Pan On Ice performed by the Imperial Ice Stars. This year, organisers are also offering Coaster Passes — a top up card for easier access to all of the event’s rollercoasters and other rides. It will work much like an Oyster card and can be topped up on site or online to avoid queuing at popular attractions.

Winter Wonderland runs until January 6, 2019. It is closed on Christmas Day. Entry is free.
