Less than a week after the Pokémon GO app was officially released in the UK, the monster-catching craze is already sweeping the nation.

The game — which takes the monster-catching concept of the original Pokémon Game Boy titles released 20 years ago and places it in the real world on users’ phones — is proving so popular that London is hosting a number of themed events where players can come together.

Here is a run-down of what’s on and where:

Pokémon GO London massive lure party

July 23, 2pm at Trafalgar Square

“We'll lure up the entire area and surroundings for a couple hours,” says the Facebook Page for this event — and there are already more than 8,000 people interested in going. Dressing up in team colours is recommended — Charmanders are red, Squirtles are blue.

Pokémon Sundays

July 31 and August 21, 6-11pm at The Macbeth

Hoxton’s Macbeth pub is hosting not one but two Pokémon-themed evenings on July 31 and August 21, though the first one is currently sold out. It will feature back-to-back screenings of the TV series and there will be a N64 set up with Pokémon Stadium, while the night will also feature a quiz and a fancy dress contest. There will almost certainly be a fair bit of Pokémon GO gaming, too.

Tickets £5. Find out more.

The Pokémon GO walk

August 6, 1-6pm at Trafalgar Square

Join in a mass quest to to catch Pokémon, battle and trade with others around central London. This walk will see fans meet at Trafalgar Square before zig-zagging to Soho via St James’s Park, Covent Garden and Oxford Circus. There will be short stop-offs to eat, drink and rest en route.

Pokémon GO Brixton bar crawl

August 6, 3pm at The Brixton Courtyard

This first-of-its-kind crawl will pull together Pokémon and drinking in south London. Kicking off at events space The Brixton Courtyard not far from Oval station, fans will head into and around Brixton one bar at a time, hoping to catch as many Pokémon as they can while they go.
