Londoners behind the campaign calling for the forgotten Peckham Lido to be brought back to life launched a crowdfunding push today in a bid to see the plan put into action.

New images produced by London architect Chris Romer-Lee have been revealed, showing what the lido will look like if organisers hit their £60,000 target. The money would be used to develop plans and apply to Lambeth council for planning permission.

Currently, the plan is to resurrect the original 50-metre Olympic pool, plus a “wild” swimming pool using the nearby River Peck. There are also plans for a rooftop sunbathing area, an outdoor cinema space, a yoga and fitness studio plus a function room. Organisers say the venue will create 40 jobs should it get the go-ahead.

The lido on Peckham Rye Common was opened in 1923 but was closed 64 years later due to disuse.
