Concert to raise cash for Cutty Sark

Jo McDermott5 April 2012

A concert will take place to raise funds for the Cutty Sark, which was ravaged by fire a week ago, it was announced today.

Stephen Archer, a director of Cutty Sark Enterprises, said the concert would take place in Greenwich in the next eight weeks. He would not reveal details of artists but added: "We have got some major support."

The appeal launched last week to raise cash for the 138-year-old tea clipper should reach the half a million pound mark by the end of today, he said.

Meanwhile, numbers at a temporary visitors' centre - opened to detail the ship's £25million conservation project - have soared fivefold to 1,000 at the weekend.
