The North Weezy rapper says getting signed was the main reason she entered the show

Honey G might have been eliminated from The X Factor, but it sounds like she’s not gone for good.

The ‘North Weezy’ rapper proved a viewer favourite, lasting until the quarter finals in the ITV singing competition, but was sent home in the latest live show.

Speaking to Lorraine, Honey – aka Anna Georgette Gilford – spoke about the backlash against her.

“It’s got to the point where if I ever do see anything negative online now, I just don’t bother clicking on the links because I know that if I read things I don’t want to read, it might upset me,” Honey said.

She was keen to stress her music credentials, detailing her background in rap.

“I’ve grown up as a musician the whole of my life,” Honey said. “I’ve got a degree in music production and composition. I’ve been involved with BBC Radio 1Xtra pretty much since it was founded.

“I’ve been into rap the whole of my life. I’ve been producing for about 15, 20 years, and I’ve been rapping for about four or five years.

“Whilst everyone, while they were younger, was listening to Backstreet Boys, I was really busy memorising the Snoop Doggy Dogg album [Doggystyle].”

For those distraught at the rapper leaving the competition, it sounds like Honey G will be back on record soon.

“The main reason why I entered X Factor was because I really want a record deal,” she told Lorraine. “I’m not really interested in anything else apart from getting signed, to get a record deal. Obviously, hopefully, with SyCo.

“I know the team really well now, we get on really well and we’re all friends. It would be lovely to be signed by them because the relationship is already in place.”
