X Factor boss Simon Cowell is said to be continuing his shake up with a new twist that will see contestants compete for ‘money-can't-buy’ prizes in the live shows.

The new feature will reportedly replace the judges’ sing-off vote which has previously seen the two hopefuls with the fewest public votes battle it out to be saved by the four mentors.

Instead the public vote alone will determine who leaves the competition, with the contestant who receives the fewest votes being automatically eliminated.

A sing-off will now be required of the two singers who top the public vote in a bid to bag a treat as Cowell wants to “celebrate the best acts”.

A source told The Sun: “X Factor bosses really want to celebrate the best of the talent this year, rather than focus on the worst in the crop.

“They feel introducing a sing-off between the top two will be a huge hit with viewers who will get to watch their favourite stars sing again each week, while the aim of winning a money-can’t-buy prize will add that classic Saturday Night Entertainment feel that ITV’s most successful shows, such as Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, have.”

They continued: “There can only be one winner, but this means the series’ very best will be given the chance not to go home empty-handed with huge prizes up for grabs.

“The sing-off had been popular but Simon believed that it had become sour and focused too much on who was leaving rather than championing the talent who was in the lead.

“He wants to celebrate the best acts on the show rather than give screen time to the less popular performers who haven’t struck a chord with the public.”
