The X Factor judge Simon Cowell turned to Twitter for help after slamming United Vibe’s “terrible” performance.

In a moody night for the ITV show, United Vibe failed to get the party started with their Guilty Pleasures performance, incurring the wrath of the judges.

Cowell kicked off the comments bluntly by telling the band that the performance was “terrible” and that “everything is going wrong” before suggesting that they get the public to pick them a new name.

The music mogul also told the five boys to “pick songs they like” and “rough themselves up” - and Louis Tomlinson didn’t exactly lighten the mood, telling them it was like five “individual performances”.

Field clapped back at husband Robbie Williams’ song choice, an hour after he had slated one of her acts, by saying that “none of his songs have been played at any party in the USA” before agreeing that it didn’t really work.

But the catty comments didn’t stop there as Cowell slated the backing dancers behind his own act Bella Penfold, who sang Diamonds are Forever, during the penultimate act of the night.

Cowell said: “I want to apologise about the dancers, no disrespect but that wasn’t what we had in mind.”

His comments echoed his fellow judges, with Tomlinson saying that he “found the moody guys in shades a little bit distracting”.

Elsewhere, Danny Tetley caused a stir after his performance when he appeared to hit out at his fellow contestants song choices.

After disheartening comments of his own, the singer told host Dermot O’Leary that he had “taken a risk” during the second week.

He said: “I think some songs are questionable this week. I’ve taken a chance, maybe it’s not worked but fingers crossed I’ll be here next week.”

Two acts will be eliminated from the competition during Sunday night’s live results show. Little Mix and Kylie Minogue will perform.

The X Factor continues Sunday October 28 at 8pm on ITV.
